synopsis:
Take an entertaining trip through the evolution of North American Native people (“The Indians”) as portrayed in famous Hollywood movies from the silent era to today. Jim Jarmusch, Clint Eastwood, Graham Greene, John Trudell, and others provide insights into the often demeaning and occasionally hilariously absurd stereotypes perpetuated on the big screen through Hollywood’s history.
The film will be followed by a panel discussion facilitated by Vaughnda Hilton and Delwin Fiddler of Native Nations Dance Theater (http://nndt.homestead.com/directory.html). Vaughnda and Delwin were also featured in the PBS series We Shall Remain (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/weshallremain/the_films/about)

Vaughna Bio
Wanbli Zi Winyan (Yellow Eagle Woman) is Blackfeet & Seminole/Creek. Vaughnda has been dancing since she was 5 years old. She started in ballet then studied other forms of dance
including ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop, Graham, Limon, Horton and other techniques of dance. Her career in dance spans over 37 years.
She is the Founder & Artistic/Executive Director of Native Nations Dance Theater (NNDT)
Native American Indian Dance Company founded and incorporated in the state of Pennsylvania. NNDT is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization that tours the world teaching the world about Native history
Vaughnda is an emerging artist with the stage name of “Akisha Wi”, loosely translated means War Cry Woman. The collaboration CD is an eclectic mix of soulful, chants, traditional music, hand drumming and flute songs. Her film credits include: “Who We Are” featured at the Smithsonian Institutes National Museum of the American Indian in the Lelawi Theater, “We Shall Remain”, a PBS TV Mini Series that premiered in 2009.
Delwin Bio
Tsunka Gleska (Spotted Horse Takes the Blanket) was born in Rapid City, South Dakota but grew up in Green Grass. His mother, Shirley Eagle Tail Fiddler, (a historian) and his
father, Delwin Fiddler Sr. (a police officer & house mover) live in a small community called Green Grass (Pejito) located in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. Delwin is a direct descendant of Chief Elk Head (Hehakupa) and he is also related to Chief Sitting Bull.
Delwin is the CEO of Lakota Son Enterprises based in South Dakota which he started to educated people about Lakota culture, powwows and native music. His artistic career spans over 15 years and he offers educational programs and powwow performances to the world including: Flute Playing, Grass Dancing, Hoop Dancing and educating the people about his Lakota culture and other native cultures. He is a core member of one of the leading Native American Indian dance companies in the world, Native Nations Dance Theater. He has traveled all over the world sharing Native American Indian history, flute playing, culture and dance.
Delwin has been dancing since he was a child and has won first place at some of the most prestigious powwows in Indian Country. Delwin has been with NNDT as the director of publicity since 1999. Delwin has been Head man dancer and judge at various competition powwows throughout the country. Delwin is also a Sundancer and spiritual leader. He is active in teaching and helping senior citizens and children throughout his career.
In September of 2003, Delwin along with other Native dancers in the community were chosen to appear in the film “Who We Are” at the Smithsonian Institutes National Museum of the American Indian in the Lelawi Theater. Delwin is featured in the film grass dancing. Other film credits include: Riding with Ghosts a film featuring Lakota Sun dancers, We Shall Remain, a PBS TV Mini series directed by Chris Eyre which premiered in Philadelphia in 2009.
